New Podcast About The Reality of Being Midlife Women Entrepreneurs

The reality of running a business as midlife women over 50 & entrepreneurs can be challenging!

Midlife women entrepreneurs and business owners have a lot on their plates; it isn’t for the faint of heart.

Being a woman over 50 isn’t either!

And when you put these two things together, you have a recipe for a variety of amazing things:

  • Courage
  • Creativity
  • Challenges and
  • Opportunities.

All the things!

That’s why I created a new podcast for women entrepreneurs (50+) who are entrepreneurs and business owners…to talk about it!

There’s so much going on at this specific intersection of life: being midlife women and entrepreneurs.

This new podcast (launched in March 2024) is called: Women in the Middle® Entrepreneurs: The Reality of Running a Business After 50.

It was was created to shine a spotlight on what’s REALLY going on as midlife entrepreneurs because there just aren’t enough women talking about this.

It’s so interesting that on the one hand, being an entrepreneur or business owner in midlife can be one of the most fulfilling and rewarding experiences of your life; and on the other hand, the experience can also be one of the most challenging and seemingly out-of-control times in your life where you’re stretched pretty thin!

It’s almost counter-intuitive.

You would think that it with all of your life experience and flexibility now that your family is older, you would have all of time you need to accommodate the demands of being a successful entrepreneur.

But that’s when midlife can absolutely get in the way.

Because…it’s also a time when your aging parents or young adult children may need you, menopause and lack of sleep may drag you down and your work/life balance may be right out the window.  And that’s just the beginning.

Don’t forget ageism.

And the way you might be thinking about aging…the thoughts you’re aware of…and the ones you’re NOT aware.

It’s super common for midlife women to think that putting themselves first feels indulgent.

It’s an uphill battle right out of the gate, entrepreneur or not.

The bottom line is that keeping your priorities straight in your life and your business can be challenging.

Let alone finding the time or the clarity to dream about what you REALLY want in your next chapter.

(insert laugh track here)

All in all?  It’s a lot to handle.

You Want Certainty But It Can Be Elusive.

When you’re a woman who’s over 50, it can sometimes seem like there are land mines everywhere, just waiting to trip you up, get in your way and make life more difficult.

If you’re like so many amazing women in the middle…you crave certainty.

You may even think it’s the gold standard.

But the reality in life  is that nothing is certain.

Even though you believe certainty is possible, at least in some areas of your life (and more than you probably think!).

Unfortunately, that belief just sets you up for disappointment and feeling bad about yourself.

As a female, midlife entrepreneurs, the responsibility of owning your own business can make things even more complex.

There are so many reasons why you may have made the decision to become an entrepreneur.

I bet wanting to have more control over your time was one of the reasons.

With my own experience, I remember when I was sitting at my desk in my last J.O.B. way back in 2012 or so really getting clarity on how lack of flexibility at my job was causing most of the stress related to it.

The commute, the hours, having to get time approved, etc. are all reasons that contribute to feeling lack of control.

Are you with me?

And that’s all when you work for someone else!

Wow, I definitely remember how much I craved more control and flexibility.

But when you own your own business, there’s often way less wiggle room than when working for someone else when midlife challenges get in the way of you running your life and business the way you really want to.

And one of the biggest problems?

You may feel alone.

There’s a lot going on. That’s why we need to open this conversation up.

We need to talk about it more!
