Today’s episode is about a midlife widow & her search to find herself again with special guest, Debbie Weiss.
Debbie is a former attorney who earned her Master of Fine Arts in creative non-fiction writing from Saint Mary’s College of California in 2020.
A native of the California Bay Area, she turned to writing after George, her husband, and partner of more than three decades, died of cancer in April 2013, and she found herself single and living alone for the first time in her life.
Her essays have been published in The New York Times “Modern Love” column, HuffPost, and Woman’s Day, among other publications. Her award-winning blog dispenses empathy and advice on grief and dating after loss. And, her first book – Available As Is: A Mid-Life Widow’s Search for Love, was released in September 2022.
Kirkus Reviews describes the book as “a deeply personal story but one that Weiss shares with a beguiling openness and wit. A sharply written, heartfelt dating account that proves both enriching and amusing.”
Debbie’s story is important because she shares what it was really like for her to try to get a connection again after her husband died, and she does so with honesty and humor.
