Imagine what it would be like to know exactly how to celebrate your 60th birthday!
Turning 60 can bring up a lot of emotion.
You probably recognize your 60th birthday as a notable milestone, but you also notice that you aren’t quite sure how you want to acknowledge it.
Should you celebrate it?
How should you celebrate it?
How do you feel about it?
Are you in a celebratory mood?
What does it mean to you?
I know what you mean. I’m turning 60 next year myself and I feel how all over the place my emotions are too!
The thing is, I know how important it is to celebrate a milestone like this.
Your 60th birthday is an opportunity to embrace the gift of aging.
This is a big deal to recognize because not everyone has the privilege to age.
In fact, my personal situation is a daily reminder of this. At 59 years old myself, I’ve far outlived my parents because each of them died quite young, at 32 and 41 years old.
Like I said, everyone doesn’t have the privilege to age.
- If you’re turning 60, you’re aging!
- If you’re turning 60, you’re alive!
- If you’re turning 60, your life is full of possibilities.
That’s why I came up with an idea.
I definitely want to celebrate my 60th in a memorable, meaningful and fun way.
And I figured you did too. So I came up with a framework to help you move forward.
“6 in 60” is a celebration blueprint to make your 60th more memorable, meaningful and fun!
It’s what I’m using to make sure I create a personal 60th birthday experience that’s amazing. I’ll be sharing more details as I continue to customize my own plans throughout the year, but for now, here’s the gist of the idea.
Like I said, “6 in 60” is a plan – it’s a celebration blueprint for your birthday year.
The idea is to identify what will be memorable for your experience of turning 60 and commit to that.
It’s a simple but powerful idea.
You don’t have to wait for someone to decide what your 60th celebration will be.
Instead, you can think about what you want.
And you use six categories to inspire your thinking about the combination of things that will be amazing for you.
The other part of the plan is that you start your celebration BEFORE your birthday. Use this birthday blueprint to guide you on the RAMP UP for your 60th.
Celebrating your 60th birthday in advance this way makes sense because on your you’ve actually completed your 60th year; you’ve completed another trip around the sun.
Here’s what to do next: Six meaningful and interesting ways to honor your 60th birthday!
Answer each of these 6 questions and then come up with a plan to activate your ideas and bring them to life!
This framework is based on ways to think about what would make this milestone both meaningful and interesting to you and for you – it’s about the combination of things that add up to one heck of a celebration!
Of course, feel free to tweak these six categories if they don’t resonate with you. Make “6 in 60” your own!
Ready to get started?
Grab a cup of tea or glass of wine, play some music and set the tone for some self-care. Answer these questions to flesh out your “6 in 60” blueprint.
When you think about the answers…please notice the FIRST thing you think of.
Watch for your brain to offer up all kinds of excuses, reasons and thoughts about why it won’t work, why it’s too much, why it’s too hard. That sort of thing is bound to come up.
Ignore this mind chatter.
Just notice the thing that you want.
And sit with it.
Focus on WHAT you want first.
THEN, at another time, figure out HOW.
This is really important because if you focus on HOW first, you will squish your dreams.
Let your dreams rise to the surface. Focus in on noticing what comes up for you right away.
You owe that to yourself, especially for your 60th.
Celebrate with these Six Questions
Question 1: What makes your heart sing? What would be extremely joyful for you?
Question 2: What makes you feel so good? What feels like luxury to you?
Question 3: What skill do you want to learn? What skill do you want to have?
Question 4: What have you always wanted to buy? What purchase do you really want to make? What have you always wanted to have?
Question 5: What connection do you want to make this year? Who do you want to reconnect with? Who do you want to make a new connection with?
Question 6: What entertainment experience do you want this year? What do you think of as truly entertaining and want more of (TV, movies, games, concerts, exhibits, shows, etc.)?
Why this approach?
Midlife women are really good at not putting themselves first. One bi-product of this habit is that you gradually get more and more disconnected from really understanding what you want.
Knowing what you like can seem like it should be easy. But, at this age and stage, it’s often more difficult than you might think.
So, these questions are really thought finders. They will help you poke and prod your brain to help you access thoughts that you may not have been aware of for quite some time, if at all.
Again, feel free to tweak the questions so they resonate with you more. Because they’re thought finders, it doesn’t really matter what the questions are. Your job is to find thoughts about what you actually want!
The categories for the “6 in 60 Birthday Blueprint” are meant to access different parts of your mind, heart, body and soul. Once combined, it’s a well-rounded plan to celebrate your amazing aging self.
