Welcome to another episode of the Women in the Middle podcast!

Midlife career transitions are often fueled by passion and excitement, but can also be challenging and scary. This week’s guest is an experienced educator. She shares her story of new beginnings and two midlife career transitions.

Gail Baker is a Co-Founder and past Head of School of The Toronto Heschel School and Co-Creator of The Intergenerational Classroom.

Gail has always been passionate about education. When she was in her early 40s, she knew she was inspired to do more as an educator and was highly motivated to do so. She became one of the co-founders of The Toronto Heschel School, a Jewish day school in Ontario, Canada.

Then, when she was 60, she also listened to her heart and retired from The Toronto Heschel School, which had become so much a part of her identity.  She knew it was time for her to move on to her next chapter because there was more that she wanted to do.

Gail believes you should trust yourself, expect the best and find your team and community. She was always aware of her core values; this is what guided her all along and continues to do so now as well.

Finally, this was a special interview for me; The Toronto Heschel School was the school that my kids attended. I loved being a part of this community and got involved as an active volunteer myself. One of the highlights was to work with an amazing volunteer team on the video presentation for the 10th anniversary celebration, where I had the opportunity to interview the founders 15 years ago.  Today’s podcast episode is a continuation of this story.

The dream to create something new is always particularly exciting!

Enjoy this interview!
